Venezuela aid activities, November 20th
2019/11/20

Our second round of aid activities in Venezuela actually took place outside of the country. This time, we sent our support to Venezuelans living and receiving pensions in Argentina. We donated $1000 USD to an organization called UVENAR Union which supports Venezuelans living abroad. Argentina is currently experiencing its own economic deficits, which means that the Venezuelan migrants are also struggling to get by.

Over 4 million Venezuelans are said to have fled the country to escape worsening conditions. The whole population of Venezuela was about 30 million at the time, meaning that a tenth of the population fled outside its borders. But life did not become easier after leaving. Venezuelans outside of the country still faced prejudice, violence, and the threat of deportation.

Our donation was divided among 10 elderly men and women who were struggling to make ends meet. In addition to distributing cash, the organization purchased and handed out cold weather mattresses. Although the amount was small, the Venezuelan migrants very happy to receive the donations.
